50 Shades of Grey Hype by British-Prophetess 50 Shades of Grey Hype by British-Prophetess
I think pretty much of the entire world has heard of one of the most popular and best-selling book up to date, 50 Shades of Grey. If you haven't, then you must be living under a rock :P

Seriously, the books have swept across like wild fire, sitting comfortably in the Top 10 books right now. Everyone is talking about it. Everyone is rushing to the stores or order the books online. Because it's a fast selling book, many shops have to order loads of copies in.

There's been a few documentaries about the books on TV, along with authors doing their own parody version.

But here's the question that I'm asking: What's all the fuss about the 50 Shades of Grey book?

Now, I've been a great lover of books ever since I was a child. You can call me an avid reader. However I'm just curious about Shades of Grey simply because I'm not on the official bandwagon so to speak. I know many women who have read the book is charmed with the sexy hero, Christian Grey, with his passionate, romantic, turbulent and tragic affair with Anna, the main female character.

What surprised me the most is my mum went out and bought all the books and is currently reading the first book. It's funny because unlike me, my mother hasn't been a book worm/lover. In fact years ago she bought a book, read a few pages of it and then soon forgot all about it. But when she heard her friends talk about the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy, she was interested.

I don't know too much about the book in order to make a judgement. But all I know is that there are quite a few sex scenes and they are very hot so I've heard.

So, what do you guys think about the books? Have you read them or not? Did you like them or did you hate them?

The book is a blatant rip off of Twilight, my Mother is reading them. And I hate it, although I am not personally a fan of Twilight, this is essentially Twilight with more Sex and BDSM. Grey is Edward Cullen, Jose is Jacob Black, and Anastasia is Bella. I'm not too keen on it, and Stephanie Meyer, I think during an interview, she said she ''hasn't read it'' because it is ''too smutty'', see, the book is just a blatant rip off of another book, with no vampires and more sex and bondage.

Yeah, I read all three books and I couldn't stand them. And a Twillight rip-off isn't that good either.

my mom and older sister have. and I think those where the only books my sister ever completed reading in her whole life.

one of them were lying on the coffee table, so I picked it up and read a random page.
it was accidentally clicking on a random "lemon" fanfiction all over again.
So I put it back and never touched it since.

I have heard about it and think it sounds horrible. From what I heard it began life as a Twilight fan fiction and got so popular that it received a publishing deal. The female sounds like Bella Swan, the male sounds suspiciously like Edward Cullen. We have just finished with the Twilight Saga and now we have this? To make it worse it even have a category on fan fiction.net. It seems that if you want to get published write a fan fiction about two characters making out with each other. What happened to all the good and great books that have little to no attention. When will they be recognised?

I've heard all the horror stories but didn't want to judge it before reading it. So I was in Fred Meyer a few weeks ago and decided to open random pages of the first book and get the gist of it. MY. FREAKING. WORD. It wasn't the fact that every page I landed on was a sex scene that shocked me, I expected no less, but it was the HORRIBLE writing style and dumb ass things that the characters said that made me toss the book at the shelf. Like.... the authors of the House of Night books decided to be pornographic trolls and toss what little bit of dignity they had in scraping up plot and writing style and shit out whatever 50 Shades is. It's just freaking weird. Not hot. Not sexy. Books like that getting popular and accepted are what's keeping people seen as objects rather than people. Time to come back to reality and realize that sex is only 1% of what life is about. Honestly, Twilight had some plot... kinda... sorta... in the second and last book... maybe. But this? No. Point is, children around the world are starving, yet people have the audacity to waste money, paper, and time on printing/publishing these books. I swear.

I read the first one.

It's just like Twilight, but....it doesn't have vampires or werewolves. Cardboard female protagonist, creepy stalker love interest, "story" revolves around the angst as the woman tries to convince herself she can deal with the fetish because the man she likes is pretty. With some bastardized version of BDSM thrown in there. (I say bastardized because I've heard people say that what's depicted in the book isn't accurate.)

Same here. I also read the two other books in the series.

All the books were a lot of shit. I really hated both the main characters :\

I've heard at the end of the last book one of the characters says something along the lines of "I bet our baby already likes sex"...is that true?

How women find Grey attractive is beyond me , he is creepy not just the whole s and m thing but the whole "I`m enamoured with you despite the fact we just met"

Really stupid if you ask me.

There is one part of the book where the bloke asks when she started her period, pushes the girl over a sink, spreads her legs, and proceeds to slide her tampon out.

No joke.

Eww, that's gross :(

I haven't read the book yet. But I skimmed the contract between Ana and Grey.

And two of the agreements really freaked me out - anal sex and anal fisting.

That's what I was wondering! I went to check it out and found out that it was a Twilight fanfic, and that it was viewing the bad side of BDSM. It seemed to attract feminists and middle aged women with it's cheesy romance crap and support of abuse and practically rape since Grey wants to have sex with Anna anytime he wants, so forget how she feels in the relaitonship -_-

EL James admit that 50 Shades was a Twilight fanfiction, but she changed the names and published the book -_- For some reason, Stephanie Meyers didn't try to sue her...

From what I have heard, it's literally a Twilight fanfiction with the names changed... That is a horrible portrayal of BDSM relationships.

Something about cheesy "romance" novels seems to attract a lot of middle aged women. :stare:

"Then it hit me like a wrecking ball. If he's a sadist, he really needs all that whipping and caning shit. Oh fuck. I put my head in my hands. "So it's true," I whisper, glancing up at him, "I can't give you what you need." This is it - this really does mean we are incompatible."
