“I can’t believe you convinced me to take the money from Principal Wells’ office,” I murmured as soon as Chloe pulled up on the driveway of her house.
She killed the truck’s lights immediately. I watched with fascination as the blue haired beauty shifted around in the seat, watching for any sudden movements in the darkness outside – no doubt David, or “Step-douche” as Chloe would fondly call him. Then again I didn’t like her step father either, not after the many encounters we had at Blackwell Academy.
A bright smile spread across her face as she turned to me, visibly relaxed.
“Jeez, relax, Max!” she exclaimed, laughing slightly. Embarrassingly I felt my cheeks burn when she ruffled my hair, teasing me. “You’re hella cute when you crinkle your nose like that.”
“Can we just go inside, Chloe?”
“How about we star gaze instead? We used to do that as kids.”
